Black Spider over Tiegenhof

Author: James D. Yoder
Average review score:

Black Spider Over Tiegenhof
I thought I'd read this book in my spare time....Black Spider is a compelling story, I couldn't put it down. Yoder has done a very good job on it. It is a fascinating story about a phase of W. W. II that few readers have ever encountered. Once you start reading the book, you can't put it down. Wayne C. Lee, author of 56 western novels.

Black Spider Over Tiegenhof
James Yoder is a great story teller. The literary style captivates the reader...Yoder captures the inner turmoil, the outer chaos, the faith, the glimmer of hope...Dr. Ann Westermann, Clergyperson and Counselor.

Black Spider Over Tiegenhof
Black Spider Over Tiegenhof tells a taut and gripping story of a faith challenged by the face of evil. Highly recommended. Library Journal.

Great Author from Wisconsin!
James Devita is a talented writer and Actor! He has written a great childrens book!

stirs the imagination
This book sits up there along with the imaginative storyline of Harry Potter. The incredible detail allows the reader to visualize as well as understand the story. The storyline keeps you wanting to read more and more. The concept seemed unusual to me at first (a boy turning into a marlin...) but once I read it, I loved it! I've shared with friends, young and old. This is a great book for younger readers!

A fabulous book according to a landlocked family.
I read to my two sons, ages 7 and 9, every night before bedtime and sometimes it can be hard to find books that meet both of their expectations. When we picked up "BLUE," both boys were skeptical. A boy turning into a marlin was not a particularly inviting premise. However, it did not take long before the three of us sat captivated by the descriptive detail, brilliant imagination and amazing storyline. The author took the time to dwell on the details vividly and beautifully without losing sight of the plot. It's really about inspiring kids to be what they want to be, even if it is so out of the ordinary as becoming non-human. I recommend it as a book to read to your children or have them read it themselves. Start to finish, it's great - we could not bear it to end! ENJOY!

The Book of Acupuncture Points (Complete Course in Acupuncture/James Tin Yau So, Vol 1)
Published in Hardcover by Paradigm Pubns (January, 1989)
Authors: James Tin Yau So, James Tin-Yau-So Dr, and Prasad Steiner
Average review score:

A book for all acupuncturists
Dr. Tin Yau So is often called the "Father of American Acupuncture." He is the founder of the New England School of Acupuncture, the oldest school of Chinese medicine in the U.S.

This book is a very detailed description of the location of acupuncture points. It details not only how to find each point but also how to needle the points and what reaction to expect (a feature unique to this text). Dr. So also gives lengthy effects for each point.

As Dr. So was trained in China prior to the communists' invention of "TCM" style acupuncture, many of his point location are not standard compared with current Chinese texts. Thus, his locations and uses of points are often provocative, questioning the material that many TCM practitioners learned and use. That said, this book is good for both beginner and advanced practitioners as it contains information no longer "politically correct" by communist Chinese standards.

A must have for all professional practitioners of Chinese medicine!

a classic
Dr. So's books on acupuncture points and treatment of disease with acupuncture are excellent, clear, easy to ready, easy to understand and follow. I use them more than any other text in my library (and I have MANY).

Easy to read and understand!
This book by James Tin Yau So is a must to understanding Acupuncture and is also is good for finding points used in the art of Tuina, I am looking to buy this book and would like info on where I can purchase it.

Burning House Fairy Tale: Poems
Published in Paperback by Writers Showcase Press (July, 2002)
Author: James C. Snowden
Average review score:

An erotic and heartbreaking tour-de-force
Writer's Showcase Review:

"Flawless...(Snowden) has an inimitable voice that explores satire, sexuality, depression and angst - and most importantly he's not afraid to lay it down on paper the way he sees it. Like a good photographer, the poet sees beneath the surface and shallow ends. This is a fine (debut) collection that deserves to be heard. There's a message here for a lot of us."

Feel the impact!
Everyone has days of raw emotion, rarely is their talent, however, that can put these emotions into words that convey their power. James Snowden is a clear example of a poet with the artistry to do just that. His poems translate how we all feel, but are unable to express. Buy this book and feel the strong impact that the written word can make.

Buy this book!
We've all been there - haven't we? To those emotional places where the world seems to shift and change, where you feel as if no one has ever felt this way before. And, yet, suddenly there is a work of literature that puts into words the raw emotions we experience every day. This is the work of a powerful poet. Not to be missed.

Blind Sight
Published in Paperback by Tyndale House Publishers (May, 2003)
Author: James H. Pence
Average review score:

exciting suspense thriller
At JFK Airport, Peter Bishop desperately tries to sneak his two young children on a plane heading to Dallas where he hopes a college crony can safely take them to their mother. Peter expects The Fellowship for World Renewal, a fast growing cult, to kill him as a traitor, which they do as he places a call to "Uncle" Tom Kent, leaving a death bed message: "save my children".

Tom does not understand the phone message or why Peter whom he had not spoken with in years, left it for him. Still he follows instructions to make a package pickup at the airport, but when he sees the package is two kids, he bolts as they remind him of his wife and children, who he killed in a vehicular accident. When he notices the twins in trouble, he helps them escape. Now he and the Bishops are fleeing for their lives as a powerful cult headed by a man expected to run for vice president chases after them. Their only hope is to find Peter's wife, hiding in the bayous of Louisiana from The Fellowship for World Renewal who declared her a traitor.

This is an exciting suspense thriller that moves rather quickly forward from the moment a panicked Peter places his kids on the plane until the final confrontation. The story line insures the audience understands the demons that eat at Tom and delight with the relationship between the twins. Though Michelle seems much older for her age and Micah handles his handicap with too much ease, fans will appreciate this taut thriller that emphasizes evil is disguised wearing the face of goodness.

WOW...I'D RECOMMEND IT TO EVERYONE I KNOW!
THE STORY LINE IS FRESH, GOOD FOR THESE DIFFICULT TIMES, I FELT THE DEPTH OF THE CHARACTERS FEELINGS AND UNDERSTOOD THE INNER BATTLES THAT WERE TAKING PLACE...IT HAS SOME GREAT MESSAGES FOR IT READERS AND THE ABILITY TO REACH OUT TO MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF PEOPLE...GREAT JOB JIM...WHEN IS THE NEXT ONE COMING OUT?
YOUR FRIEND IN CHRIST...DELENA LOUGHMILLER

Begging for a sequel!
I thorughly enjoyed this very moving book. It is full of suspense, action, drama and has a spiritual punch. The verses in Habakkuk are well chosen and give hope to anyone who is suffering and can't find God in the equation.

The author did a great job interweaving the various experiences of the characters and did a good job of keeping me guessing.

I love the formatting of the book and think it is a masterpiece. It is just begging for a sequel.

Bouvier Des Flanders: The Dogs of Flandres
Published in Hardcover by Alpine Pubns (October, 1991)
Authors: J. Engel and James R. Engel
Average review score:

Detailed history of breed, special emphasis on police work
As a new and first time owner of a Bouvier des Flandres puppy, I appreciated many of the details, historical, raising and breeding. The book emphasizes the Bouvier as a Schultzhund dog, which is the author's perogative. I would have appreciated more information on training of a Bouvier for a pet. Many dog owners desire a lovable pet not a champion police dog. The author is an important breeder of Bouviers and he has many valid points to keep the Bouviers to a standard. I myself researched breeders for several months as it is a problem. My summary statement is that the book is worth the money. If there is a revision, I hope the author will broaden his interests in the breed for the general dog owner.

The Bouvier book everyone should read
A most informative easy to read book, giving accurate detail and information about the Bouvier des Flandres.

Engle accurately portrays the breed in easy to read text.
Engle does an excellant job of portraying Bouviers as the working family dog they really are. All Bouvier owners should read this book. Kathleen Ryan

Thought Provoking and in print in UK
Yes, this thought provoking, stimulating, and controversial book is in print on the UK and Canada web sites of amazon. And not to be missed, his new book is a best seller in the England: They ...You Up: How to Survive Family Life by Oliver James. I got a copy sent over and it is even more provocative: An outright challenge to theories of genetic and/or peer group influences on personality and psychopathology, it argues that those first 6 years in family life are the key to development. Both books argue that contemporary technological society, not genes, are responsible for low serotonin levels and the current epidemic of depression in European-American culture. Must read.

Caesar and Christ: A History of Roman Civilization from Its Beginnings to A.D. 337 (Story of Civilization, Vol 3)
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (September, 1983)
Authors: William James Durant, Will Durant, and Ariel Durant
Average review score:

Valuable reference for historical novel readers
It is an excellent history reference, although people may not read it from page one to the end like reading a fiction. College students may use it for academic reference and research papers.

However, if you are into Roman historical novels such as Colleen McCullough "First Man in Rome", "Grass Crown"..., Gore Vidal "Julian", Robert Graves "I, Claudius"..., Henryk K. Sienkiewicz "Quo Vadis"; Roman era fantasies such as Pauline Gedge "The Eagle and the Raven", Donna Gillespie "The Light Bearer", it definitely adds complimentary flavor to your reading by being aware of the political and social environment of Roman Empire. The chapters are not essentially in chronological layout, but, for example, a chapter devoted to Roman arts and letters, another for daily lives of the social classes. Whilst you are reading your novel in the middle and want to find out more about a particular topic, simply refer to the Index and the relevant chapters.

You would enjoy the novels, and possibly Shakespeare's "Anthony and Cleopatra", and the movies "Ben-Hur", "Spartacus", "The Fall of Roman Empire", "Gladiator" even more. And "Cleopatra" and "Quo Vadis" were made movies too.

The part of Early Christianity in the latter chapters, would help you in reading the Gospels, the Acts, and letters from Paul and the disciples. In the same manner, it helps you to appreciate more in reading Christian historical fictions such as Sholem Asch "The Nazarene" "The Apostle", Thomas Costain "The Silver Chalice".

An additional recommendation is Vol 4. "Age of Faith", sole focus of which is the discussion of the religions Judaism, Christianity, Islam in the Middle Ages.

Pearls before swine
It's too bad so few people have taken the trouble to read or even review Durant. "The Story of Philosophy" was a best-seller in 1929. Tom Clancy & Patricia Cornwell (sic) get listings as long as the day is long, but Durant just gets in left in the corner ignored. It's a shame.

This book is excelent ancient rome history book.It is impossible to be not impress.

Cagney by Cagney

Author: James Cagney
Average review score:

A Wonderful Book!!!!!
Iam a big James Cagney fan!!!! I got this book when it first came out and read it in about a week!!!!! I still have it in my collection of books on Mr. Cagney. He wonderfully goes through his childhood. His love of his family and how much he loved his mother. A very gentle man, who showed such a mean side on the screen, goes to show what a great actor he was!!!! To learn he painted and was a fine poet too was interesting. Reading of his career and how he looked at acting as just a job, nothing more. There is humor too, that Mr. Cagney always had and expresses very much so in his book!!!!! Iam glad I got it back in 1976, but for all Cagney fans, if your able to find this book, it is a must read. Very enjoyable!!!!!

Absolutely wonderful!!!
Fascinating insights into the man who captured Americas heart. I've had this book since it was published the first time...it's yellowed with age, but worth reading again...and again. THIS is the book he wanted to reveal himself in and I think this is the only book about his life that really counts.

Straight up and to the point/
This book is for the true fan of James Cagney. Mr. Cagney tells his story as no one can -- straightforward and to the point. He pulls no punches and puts to rest the ages old tale about the line, "you dirty rat." Easy reading and extremely enjoyable.(This is my second reading!)

C++ Programmer's Notebook (2nd Edition)
Published in Paperback by Prentice Hall PTR (16 August, 2001)
Authors: James Edward Keogh, John Shapley Gray, and Jim Keogh
Average review score:

just waste my money and time
I thought it was a great book but....., now I am very sad. I do not think the author knows enough about C++. If you want to confuse C and C++, and write some awful codes, get this book.

Good book with someone familiar with C++ programming syntax.
This book can be a good addition to your C++ library. But, you will need a good C++ programming book which explains contents of this book in more details. This book does have good examples but what good are the examples if they are not explained very well.

I recommend getting:

The C++ Programming Language Special Edition
by Bjarne Stroustrup with this book.

Makes mastering c++ easy
With so many c++ books on the market, not one explains c++ the way programmers like to lean. At least until now. I found this book a well worth addition to my library. You lookup the functionality you want, then look at a fully working - short - program showing how to code the functionality. Best of all the authors use callouts to describe every aspect of the syntax. I really like the programmer's notebook style.
